The Studio of Photographic Arts (theSOPHA.com) presents its four-evening introductory class covering the basics of digital photography for DSLR users. Take your photography to the next level by making full use of your camera’s controls!

Night 1: Getting to know your digital SLR.
Join us as we navigate our way through your camera’s picture-taking controls item by item. We will explore how SLR camera controls can help you make the best of any photo-taking situation, covering the basics of exposure, exposure modes, and focusing.

Night 2: Welcome to the digital world.
On the second night of our program we will investigate how digital can improve our photography and accelerate your learning. We will review your camera’s image capture and image review controls, being sure to cover file numbering, JPG. Vs. RAW, file sizes, compression, and more!

Night 3: Through the looking glass: all about lenses.
The third night of the program students will survey a number of lenses to find out what different optics can offer their photography. We will discuss wide angle vs. telephoto lenses, zoom vs. fixed lenses, lens quality, and size/weight/cost considerations.

Night 4: Let there be light: flash photography.
For the fourth and final night of our introductory program, student will learn about the basics of flash photography. We will cover both built-in and on camera flash options, including red-eye reduction modes.

What you need to bring
For each night’s class, be sure to bring your digital SLR and lens, a freshly charged battery, memory card, and your instruction manual.

Schedule
The course is offered over four weekday nights, one night per week. Each session meets for three hours, from 630PM to 930PM.
